Pieter Capiau


Pieter Capiau’s prac­tice focus­es on rep­re­sent­ing tech­nol­o­gy com­pa­nies through­out their growth cycle, from start-ups to large pub­lic companies.

Among oth­er aspects of his prac­tice, Pieter rep­re­sents domes­tic and inter­na­tion­al clients in ven­ture cap­i­tal and pri­vate equi­ty financ­ings, merg­ers and acqui­si­tions, inno­va­tion coun­sel­ing and com­plex cor­po­rate issues and trans­ac­tions, such as strate­gic col­lab­o­ra­tions and off-bal­ance sheet financ­ings. In addi­tion to rep­re­sent­ing a num­ber of ven­ture-backed emerg­ing tech­nol­o­gy and growth com­pa­nies, Pieter also has exten­sive expe­ri­ence rep­re­sent­ing ven­ture cap­i­tal investors and funds in con­nec­tion with ven­ture equi­ty invest­ments and fund formations.

Pieter also coun­sels com­pa­nies on tech­nol­o­gy strat­e­gy and mon­e­ti­za­tion, includ­ing sophis­ti­cat­ed IP-based trans­ac­tions and licens­ing agree­ments, data pro­tec­tion mat­ters and free and open source licensing.

Pri­or to being a part­ner at Cresco, Pieter was senior asso­ciate in the cor­po­rate and trans­ac­tions depart­ment of Ambos NBGO (20062014).

After obtain­ing his law degree (UA, 2005), he obtained post­grad­u­ate degrees in cor­po­rate law (KUB/KUL, 2007), busi­ness law (UA, 2009), cor­po­rate finance (KUL, 2008) and ven­ture cap­i­tal (UCLA, 2012).
